The disillusions behind motivation

Motivation can be a very deceptive feeling that feeds on passing, momentary emotional states.

Motivation is for sure a feeling we all experience quite often and we frequently associate it with a great line we heard in a movie or read in some social media post. And for good reason.

Most of the time those lines come from great and successful people. If they don’t have the key, who else would? “You can do it!” sounds much more special and believable coming from Muhammad Ali.

But motivation is greatly misunderstood and 95% of the time it disappears overnight.

1. First of all, motivation is mistaken for a clear Goal or Purpose

Motivation is like knowing you are hungry.

If you have a clear appetite for something like french fries, then motivation will get you started on chopping those potatoes and you will chop them happy, confident that those are going to be the best fries ever.

Now think you are as hungry, but have absolutely no idea of what to eat.

You will start looking in the fridge for nothing specific, searching on every shelf for an idea. In the end, most of us just settle for some leftovers (not that this is a problem) witch is not enough to fill out our appetite, or eat whatever we find just to get it over with.

That’s not the idea of motivation, right?

2. Motivation is like iron: useless not melted in something else, it’s useless

Motivation is a resource that comes from the heart, but the mind it’s the true factory.

If you get enthusiastic about any idea you should start researching or at least find a way to convert that emotion into real action. Most successful people didn’t make it because they had motivation, but they did it because they had great Habits. 3. All those motivational quotes can have a much deeper meaning than you belive

You can’t apply something that you don’t truly understand. Eh, the truth is you can, but the result will be, by far, not the same.

Think that those powerful punch lines and deep phrases are the simplest summaries of very long(maybe even painful) experiences that led to growing.

I myself had problems with this quote from the movie Coach Carter:

“Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”

I felt really inspired by this idea of being afraid of my own power and I thought that’s the thing I should do, stop being afraid. Years later, after some true experience, I had the revelation of its true meaning: it’s not fear that’s the problem, but running from it is. Fear is good. Control it, don’t let it control you.

4. Motivation can lead to Falls Expectations

Don’t expect yourself to do as great as others if you are not willing to put in the work or the mind and imagination. Because yes, some things can be done in various ways> Work hard or work smart<

Pick what is easiest for you at least in the beginning, when you might not have that many resources.

Don’t be afraid of the impossible, but be afraid of yourself if you achieve the impossible too soon.

Short or long term use of motivation

Don’t get upset now. Motivation is still a good sign. Sometimes you just need to know how to Boost it or to Preserve it.

Boosting works very well while you run, or when you training at the gym. And you don’t have to listen to the same music everyone else does. Play some great speeches on your earphones. Words are the most powerful weapon.

Preserving motivations is to know when not to let yourself get carried by the waves. Don’t overdo something just because you feel like it. Do it only if you know for sure there are no consequences for yours tomorrow’s mission. Again, plan your energy for the long run, not a sprint.
